Bug Description

I have a large pdf document that contains text and images. Printing this pdf to my new HP 5940 with the settings for "layout" set to "2 pages on 1" will result in some of the images being printed with big black boxes next to them, overlaying some text. The text is printed fine, it's still shining through a little bit. This is 100% reproducable. Changing settings for printer resultion (normal/draft etc.) or color/grayscale doesn't change anything.

Printing simply 1 page to 1 page works fine.

I created an extract of that PDF file (printing it to file as "Generic Postscript") and made a picture of the buggy printout of that document. I will attach them here.

I'm running ubuntu 6.06, clean install, all updates installed (as of 8th June 06). Printers for the HP 5940 were created with gnome-cups-manager, printing was done with Evince.

This is a photo of the buggy printout of the example document. The boxes on the left side always look the same when I print it.

Jens,

Can you try if you still have this problem in Dapper 6.06 LTS after applying the patch suggested in bug #34112.

Test packages with the patch applied (amd64 and i386, and source) can be found here (thanks to Martin Pitt):

  deb http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/packages/libgnomeprint/ ./
  deb-src http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/packages/libgnomeprint/ ./

just add this to /etc/apt/sources.list, sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade.

Let us know if it works!

Sorry, I forgot to write that in my first post: Yes, I have the patches for bug #34112 installed, from the location you mentioned above.

To be more precise: I have the patches installed and the problem still exists.

More info:
I just installed kubuntu-desktop parallel to my existing ubuntu setup and printed the same file from a KDE session with KPdf. Results are the same as described above.

Hi!

I have a similar problem.
I have a PDF that when previewed it shows correctly but when i print it, some images get replaced by a black box of the same size of the image.

If I print the PDF to PS and the I print the PS the problem persists.

I attach a PDF page that shows this problem. It fails printing the image at slide 3 (row 2, column 1).

I use KUbuntu 6.06, but i have no patches applied to it.

Thanks!

This problem still occurs?

I just tried to reproduce it again (this time ubuntu 6.10, all latest updates installed):

with Evince: printing 2 pages on 1 doesn't work *at* *all* anymore, this feature seems to be broken generally. I always get 1 page on 1 page. Therefore I can't say if the problem still exists

with Kpdf (used within a GNOME session): printing 2 pages on 1 works fine, no more black boxes.

I DON'T use any form of duplex printing, but I get a black box instead of an image in the printed PDF.

Simple sending the former attached pdf to printer shows this behaviour. In my case it doesn't relate to duplex printing.

Thanks!

I just dist-upgraded from ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04. Printing 2 pages on 1 with Evince doesn't produce any black boxes anymore. Therefore, for me this bug is resolved.
