duplex printing with gnome apps not possible

Binary package hint: hplip-cups

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7590 printer with duplex unit installed. Since hplip 3.9.6 the new hpcups driver is used for this printer by default. In system-config-printer the checkbox "Duplexer installed" is checked.

Anyway in the print dialog of evince or gedit I have only one option in Page Setup->Two-sided: One Sided (inconsistent spelling btw).

Duplex printing in acrobat reader however works.

This is on Ubuntu karmic

All packages are up to date.

The problem is still present with the latest packages. If you could give me some hints were to look at, I could provide all necessary informations and help debugging this problem. This is a regression.

You must proceed as follows:

Choose "File"/"Page Setup". In the dialog coming up then choose your printer in the first drop-down and a page size with "Auto Duplex" in the second drop-down". Then click OK and choose "File"/"Print" again. Now you can choose duplex.

Ah I see. This works in evince (although its hard to spot imho) but for example in gedit there isn't a separate page setup menu point. Instead you can choose an auto-duplex page size in the print dialog but then I still can't choose Two-sided. So duplex printing with gedit is not possible at the moment.
