Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I just reinstall my Ubuntu server to v9.04 and cups is not working. I created the printer, sent a test page, it goes into processing, then it says the job is completed, but nothing cames out the printer.

am trying to add to the count...
Was working until about 28th job then nothing
reset Kubuntu 9.04 -Test page- nothing printed
reinstalled hplip - reinstalled printer - test page - nothing printed
strange lost jobs sometimes pop up later in the queue
tested on my laptop running Ubuntu and the same printer would have random issue until re-boot laptop.

This is all I've gotten back

Unable to find an appropriate su/sudo utility to run hp-plugin.

Which distribution do you have installed? Jaunty? Karmic? Ubuntu? Kubuntu?

Is any of the programs kdesu, kdesudo, gnomesu, or gksu installed on your system? Is any other program for this purpose (opening a login/password dialog and running a program as the user who logged in or as root) installed on your system (which program)?

Did you start hp-plugin as a privileged user (first user set up during installation, must be in adm and lpadmin groups)?

Can you make sure that your system is completely up to date?

no kdesu as I could see from System Activity
no kdesudo as I could see from System Activity
no multiple sign-on and I've installed using all relevant tools as of fresh
install or Synaptic, and assume my status is admin and
setting up the things as root as needed. I'm sure that doesn't answer your
question, but I am not yet well versed in KDE or Linux systems navigation.
This is a unmodified install of Kubuntu to an old Athlon 2600/32bit machine
and 2.5 gigs of ram.

I do recall that the install process found the printer.

*"Can you make sure that your system is completely up to date?"*

outside of the following the usual update via the update manager and for
good measure "marking all updates" in Synaptics this would be a YES to my
knowledge.

I would like to say that it was working for a short time and then stopped
and on my laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 and plugged my printer to it and it
worked for a few printouts and also now give the "completed" but nothing
happens. Oh, and yes the printer is working, since I have an windows XP
installation and it prints fine/normal.

Hello Mysteryonion,
Thank you for contributing to this bug in 2009. Ubuntu and hplip have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 387103
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.
