Bug Description

I'm not sure on the package name so I just picked one out of my hat
LOL

Many printer drivers are missing in Dapper.
I couldn't get my HP Deskjet 5740 working 100% so I went back into Breezy, and used my HP_DeskJet_5740 driver from there.
It seems that the list of drivers for printers in Breezy is alot longer than in Dapper.
Hopefully Dapper continues with strong printer support, as I feel this is a step backwards.

I had the same problem before on my AMD64 system.
From a dist-upgrade it was fine.
Then from a fresh install HPLIP drivers were not listed and I had to install them manualy even though they were listed by Synaptic as installed.
Second time around from a fresh install, they were listed and everything is working.

removed from the package, they are in hplip-data. does this work for you?

Are you saying that the drivers are in hplip-data??
I went to /usr/share/doc/hplip-data and I don't see the drivers in there.

Like I said, I made a backup of the hp driver from Breezy, and I used it to get my printer working 100%.

But I think the main issue here is "ease of use".
How is a new user to Ubuntu Dapper/Linux suppose to know that there needed hp driver is in hplip-data??

This makes no sense to me at all.

I've been using an EPSON Stylus CX5200 in Dapper and Edgy with no trouble at all.

I installed Feisty BETA on a spare machine and tried to install the printer which is networked via a server. The printer was detected and showed up in the printer selection panel but the CX5200 driver (in fact ALL the CXnnnn drivers) were not in the driver list.
