Bug Description
System: Ubuntu 5.10 RC
Package: hplip-base 0.9.5-2ubuntu2 (breezy)
Description:
------------
I am using an HP PSC 2110 multifunctional printer-
When setting up the printer with the "gnome-
-> Administration -> Printing), the printer is detected alright, but only via
the usb backend, not via the hp backend. When I select the radio button
"Use another printer by specifying a port", the "Printer Port" drop down box
shows "hp no_device_found".
When the printer is setup as detected via the usb backend, printing works
alright, but when starting the "hp-toolbox" of the "hplip" package, I get the
error message:
"No installed HP devices found . ...
Note: Only devices installed with the hp: CUPS backend will appear in the
HP device manager"
Solution:
---------
The problem is caused by the fact that the CUPS service starts before the hplip
service. In the /etc/rc*.d directories the symbolic links to the cupsys and
hplip init scripts are named S19cupsys and S19hplip respectively.
I have renamed the S19hplip symbolic links to S18hplip in /etc/rc2.d,
/etc/rc3.d, /etc/rc4.d and /etc/rc5.d.
Then, after rebooting, the PSC2110 is detected by the "gnome-
the hp backend as well. The "printer port" drop down box shows:
"hp:/usb/
When the printer is setup as detected via the hp backend, the "hp-toolbox"
finds the printer and functions correctly.
