Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04 beta, as available on 22th of March, liveCD, amd64.

Printer on USB detected correctly.
Printer job correctly added, after one or two second panel applet says "out of paper",
while printer is correctly fed with paper and signs it with green led, next, after
additional few seconds panel applet says "other". After a few minutes printer starts
"printing", giving several empty pages or pages with single line of junk.

In Feisty (7.04) printing worked great out-of-the-box, I didn't even have to check settings.
Since Gutsy all available drivers make problems: they print very slow, report error "other",
do errors in printed pages, and/or don't print at all.

Searching other bug reports I came across bug 172550.

Does changing your printer driver in System -> Admin -> Printing to "HP LaserJet 1200 Foomatic/hpijs" help the situation? (click on the "Change" button next to Make and Model in the "Printer Configuration" window).

Ok, with Foomatic/hpijs it seems to work fine now, also with quite large documents (>10MB), which sometimes cause problems in Gutsy. The only disadvantage is that it's still not too fast (about 10-20 sec waiting for the first page and sometimes up to 5 sec for each next page).
Thanks.
