Bug Description

I wanted to print a document from LibreOffice on both sides of the paper on my HP multifunction printer which is driven through the hplip package. The print dialog allowed me to select duplex printing, but the document came out printed on one side of the paper only. This uses twice as much paper as needed and so is wasteful. Printing the document from Microsoft Windows printed correctly in duplex.
An old question here https://askubuntu.com/questions/1273656/hp-printer-on-ubuntu-18-04-duplex-print-on-both-sides-not-working-even-thoug suggests that the problem may be that Ubuntu ships a downlevel version of the hplip package by comparison with the one on github.

I am using Ubuntu 22.04tjcw@tjcw-OptiPlex-7010:~/Desktop$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Release: 22.04
tjcw@tjcw-OptiPlex-7010:~/Desktop$

tjcw@tjcw-OptiPlex-7010:~/Desktop$ apt-cache policy hplip
hplip:

I expected the document to come out printed on both sides of the paper.

I got the document printed one-sided, using twice as many sheets of paper as I wanted.
