hp-systray fails due to "error: Unable to open /home/[user]/.hplip/hp-systray.lock lock file." if ~/.hplip is a symlink

Bug #1660412 reported by Karl-Philipp Richter
This bug affects 1 person
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
hplip (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

This seems to be unrelated to the existence or the permissions of the lock file (various, but not all combinations have been tested).

The limitation should be removed because it has no obvious purpose or if it has any purpose at all it should be revealed in a helpful error message.

This is an unsupported release now. Please think to install the next LTS 'Bionic 18.04'
