The file hpmudext.so might be corrupted or not installed/compiled correctly. If possible remove the file, then in the hplip source run make clean, make, make install again and see if that may resolve this.

Thanks, I'm not sure how to do this.
Would it be something like:
root@tower-desktop:~# sudo apt-get hpmudext.so

root@tower-desktop:~# sudo apt-get remove hpmudext.so

run;

sudo apt-get remove hplip
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get install hplip

or you can run:

sudo apt-get remove hplip

and then run the installer from our website: http://hplip.sf.net.
