Bug Description
Binary package hint: hplip
COPYING assigns licenses to various files, but data/firmware/* does not have any license.
Since firmware does not have any source code and thus is not available in the "preferred form of modification) (as mandated by the GPL), these files should be distributed under the BSD license. This is something upstream has to explicitly change, there is nothing we can do about it ourselves (short of repackaging the tarball to throw out the firmware).

I have asked the HPLIP developers at HP and they asked me for removing the firmware files. So I did and made the packages available here to fix this problem:
http:// www.linux- foundation. org/~till/ tmp/ubuntu/ gutsy/hplip/
They will soon appear in Gutsy.
