Bug Description

Ever since upgrading to Trusty, I cannot attach files to fax with hp-fax. I downloaded the diagnostic tool and it seems 14.04 isn't supported.

This is a pretty big deal for a LTS release. I may not need to fax very often, but I don't much like printing a document and faxing in manually.

I believe this is related to Bug #1320510. I performed a diagnosis which suggested several files needed installing. I continued to install the files, but still can't attach any files to a fax. The message that the OS is not supported is unchanged.

I deal with a government agency mired in the 20th century and need to send faxes periodically.

Hi Christopher,

Can you please try installing the latest HPLIP 3.15.6 ?
You can download the auto-installer package hplip-3.15.6.run file from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html and install it by running command 'sh hplip-3.15.6.run'.

After the install, run command 'hp-setup' in terminal to configure the fax and print queue for the printer and run command 'hp-sendfax' to send the fax job.

If you are still facing the issue, provide us 'hp-sendfax -ldebug' command output here.

Thanks,
Goutam

Is this still an issue? I am thinking about moving to 14.04 and this bug would keep me from doing so.

Thanks,
Oliver

Still an issue with 15.10. Perhaps I have a conflict, but I don't think so.

I hate to say it, but it work perfectly in Windows 10.

Hi Christopher

We need to look into the file "/var/log/syslog" to help you out.
Fax works on 15.10.

Clear the "/var/log/syslog" and try sending fax. THen attach the the output of syslog here

I tried the HP customer support fax line (Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).
When your fax is received by the HP Test Fax Service, we will generate a return fax to you within five minutes confirming that we received your fax. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.) and it hung without sending.

I checked CUPS and the jobs were pending without actually sending. I cleared my syslog before trying anything and it's just a blank document now.
