Bug Description

HP LaserJet 2200DT (USB) stops printing after one page. Connected via USB.
http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-LaserJet_2200

When printing another page, Printer status is "sending data to printer" and neither first or second job does not go through. The printer applet is not shown after first page is sent.

When printing cups test page, test page job goes through (ignoring all other jobs).

Can you follow the instructions of the sections "USB printer", "CUPS error_log", and "Capturing print job data" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. Thanks.

Oddly enough, after installing hplip-gui, re-adding the printer and turning on cups debugging, the printer now works as expected.

Seems that your printer got set up with the HPLIP "hp" CUIPS backend (used by default in Ubuntu) now, which seems to be more reliable for HP printers.

affects: cups (Ubuntu) → hplip (Ubuntu)

Can you run the command "lpstat -v" in a terminal window and post the output here? Thanks.

Here are the different lines affecting this printer. I have one using usb: and the other using hp:
$ lpstat -v

can you run the command

lsusb

in a terminal window and post the output here.

Can you then do the following:

Do all test prints via the "HP-LaserJet-2200" printer (the one with "usb://..." URI).

In a terminal window, run the command

lpadmin -p HP-LaserJet-2200 -o usb-unidir-default=true

Now turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs. Does this solve the problem?

Then run

lpadmin -p HP-LaserJet-2200 -R usb-unidir-default

and after that

lpadmin -p HP-LaserJet-2200 -o usb-no-reattach-default=true

Again, turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs. Does this solve the problem?

Now try

lpadmin -p HP-LaserJet-2200 -o usb-no-reattach-default=true
lpadmin -p HP-LaserJet-2200 -o usb-unidir-default=true

and turn off and turn on your printer, then try to print several jobs. Does this solve the problem?

Please tell what works for you.

If nothing works, reset all to defaults via

lpadmin -p <printer> -R usb-no-reattach-default
lpadmin -p <printer> -R usb-unidir-default

Please do all tests and tell which configurations work and which not.
