Bug Description

This is quantal 64-bit.

I have an HP Photosmart C310 scanner/printer, which was working properly both for printing and scanning, until the most recent hplip upgrade. As far as I can tell printing is working, but the hplip Device Manager, under Print Settings > General, does not recognize the duplexer, and will not let me check the item to show it is installed.

Attempting to scan with xsane, either through the device manager, or directly with xsane, produces the following error:

Failed to open device 'hpaio://net/Photosmart_Prem_C310_series?ip=192.168.2.110'

The ip number is correct. I removed and reinstalled the printer, and also tried connecting with a USB cable instead of wireless, but I get the same errors. All of this works correctly in Precise.

Version installed in quantal (does not work): 3.12.6-3ubuntu1

Version that does work in Precise: 3.12.2-1ubuntu3.1

Can someone of the HPLIP developers at HP look into this? Thanks.

doctordruidphd, note that Launchpad is used for both Ubuntu and HPLIP upstream, so for forwarding an HPLIP bug reported to Ubuntu upstream one does not need to create a new bug report but simply add an HPLIP upstream task to the existing bug report, which I have already done (by clicking "Also affects project"). Therefore I am marking your new bug report, bug 1056447, as duplicate of this one.

FYI: Today's (26 Sept) update to hplip (3.12.6-3ubuntu2) did NOT fix the issues reported.

Sorry, did not know about forwarding bug reports to different lists.

Discovered the problem:

Copying the file /usr/lib/sane/libsane-hpaio.so.1 from the precise 12.04 installation to the quantal 12.10 installation fixes the problem. This file is part of the libsane-hpaio package. If I can figure out how to change the bug report, I will do so.

This may be closed. I am no longer using quantal; there is no problem with this in Bionic. Thanks.
