The DVD and the wifi button on the HP DV5215 do nothing. The DVD button is illuminated, but the wifi button doesn't even light up. The buttons have no keycode and produce no events to the acpid log file.

I can confirm this on the HP DV5224nr under both Feisty Herd 3 and Edgy.

The wifi button will only light up, if WiFi is activated. I had the buttons working at some point, but it didn't bother me, because I use WiFi per default and had to need to switch it off via the button.

The DVD icon will not work in Ubuntu, because it's a proprietary HP to boot into the DVD player without booting into the OS, but you can bild the key to, for example, start a movie player, etc.

I'll look for some scripts.

In karmic, udev-extras provides a standard /lib/udev/keymaps/hewlett-packard file that includes keymaps for both DVD and wlan buttons, so I think this is fixed now. If you find that it isn't, please reopen this bug report. In that case, please also double-check that the buttons still don't generate any keycodes or ACPI events.
