This bug happens for me as well on 10.04, however I have hal and mono all their dependencies installed. It would be handy if someone could post a workaround (i.e. list what packages are missing)

For #4, after installing hal, you'll need to restart dbus to make the error go away. At least that fixed it for me...

In comment #5 it is suggested to restart dbus. I am relatively new to UBUNTU so could someone tell me what the command would be to do this?

Installing the following packages fixed Hipo for me. I am not sure which one provided the fix.

halevt (0.1.5-3)
libboolstuff-0.1-0 (0.1.12-3)
gnome-device-manager (0.2-3)
libgnome-device-manager0 (0.2-3)

JD's(#10) solution worked for me on Maverick 64bit.
Specifically I was missing halevt and libboolstuff-0.1-0

Dear all...
I had the same bug and I did tried to do fix it by Installing the package mentioned by JD,but nothing fixed.
I try another apps known as Rhythmbox 0.13.1 and it's work perfectly ;).
Keep trying...

Added halevt and libboolstuff separately from apt-get and then install hipo.

The UI appeared but nothing in the UI is working. Menu opens but clicking on any of them does not do anything.
Also, at the bottom, it says, 'No IPOD found' even though my IPOD is connected.

Not sure what is wrong and how to correct.
