laptop does not resume from hibernation, restarts fresh

Hibernate appears to behave as expected (it takes a bit more time than suspend, noticeable disk activity), but resume behaves as if I shut down the machine: it resumes by booting the machine instead of resuming.

Issues #499940, #454817 and #392065 might be related, but I've been told under issue #499940 to report a new issue so that's what I did.
