Bug Description
Binary package hint: hfsprogs
The description of the package says:
> For users, HFS+ seems to be a good compromise to carry files between MacOS X and Linux Machines ...

> * ability to use a journaled filesystem;

This is misleading! Linux doesn't support journaled HFS+ partitions. You can mount journaled partions read-write using a "force" mount option but there is a very good chance of wrecking the filesystem that way.
If you want to write to HFS+ from Linux, you better disable journaling ("diskutil disableJournal <device>" on OS X).

This should be fixed in Debian. Since you seem to understand the packaging and bug reporting system, you would better report this yourself to the Debian bug tracking system; else the bug will stay as it is... ;-)
