Bug Description

Binary package hint: hdparm

On my KUbuntu Feisty (7.04) I am not able to set either the EIDE disk DMA or the 32 bit mode.
If I boot with, say, knoppix I can.
The errors I get are the following:

enzo@home:~$ sudo hdparm /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
 readonly = 0 (off)
 readahead = 256 (on)
 geometry = 14593/255/63, sectors = 234441648, start = 0
enzo@hme:~$ sudo hdparm -c 1 -d 1 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 setting 32-bit IO_support flag to 1
 HDIO_SET_32BIT failed: Invalid argument
 setting using_dma to 1 (on)
 HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
 IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)

The dmesg log doesn't show anything related to this problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

As far as I understand this is not a bug. See this:
http://linux-ata.org/faq.html#io32
So unfortunately, no one is interested in implementing 32-bit mode in libATA.
