Bug Description

Binary package hint: hdapsd

From 2.6.27+ the kernel (or disk protection patch) uses a new interface for disk protection. See the following mail, which also provides a patch:

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux.drivers.hdaps.devel/1372

The startup script has to be modified also, since it checks for the old interface name only.

The debian version in experimental already has the fix, see #300814 and http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/h/hdapsd/hdapsd_0.0.20081004-1/changelog

I almost became desperate during the last days looking for the reason for HDAPS not working on Intrepid. I even recompiled my kernel several times. When I realised that the problem was the init script, I almost baged my head against the wall. I fixed it myself now and replaced the hdapsd binary with a recent one. If I had seen that bug report before I wouldn't have gone through hell ;-)
I really hope hdapsd will be updated in the future since the HDAPS protection interface will be in mainline kernel 2.6.28 which will cease the need for manually patching and recompiling the Ubuntu kernel. It would be great to see an updated package in Jaunty :-)

Thanks for your efforts and kind regards,

Martin

I just edited my fixed hdapsd init script. Please find attached my most recent version. It should be sufficient for anyone using the hdaps daemon.

Kind regards,

Martin

Why you dont just fetch the version from debian/experimental?

I actually had it fixed already and didn't want to fetch that Debian package. And I hope this will help people looking for a simple solution for the problems I had.
The second point is that it's only a minor edit you could use for a new package. I left the rest of the script completely unchanged.

Thanks,
Martin
