haskell-platform & GHC out-of-sync & versioning

The haskell platform http://hackage.haskell.org/platform/contents.html is a set of haskell packages that are known to work together @ specific versions.

haskell-platform (2012.1.0.0) (precise) seems to specify the versions of http://hackage.haskell.org/platform/changelog.html so should be named haskell-platform (2012.2.0.0) (precise)

Also haskell-platform (2012.2.0.0) (quantal) seems to specify versions greater than the official Haskell platform.

I believe that the versions of this package should reflect precisely the same set of Haskell packages, as those versions of the official Haskell platform do.

With Haskell you can stick with the platform (stable) or upgrade to the latest version of a package. Ubuntu does not need to make its own selection -- or if it does -- don't call it "The haskell platform".

This is a really obnoxious decision, and has actually resulted in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail not having a haskell-platform package, because the raring package for GHC doesn't work with the previous or current version of the Haskell Platform.

The dev deleted the entire haskell-platform package in April, saying that a new "platform" package wasn't ready, but it is now, and that doesn't work with the currently packaged version of GHC:

Ubuntu 13.04 users are now in the awkward situation of either not getting to use this, or having to build it from source. Because of the compiler mis-match, though, the devs are forcing users to download and compile a new version of the compiler manually, and then download and compile the haskell-platform manually.

This is pretty terrible, and is only going to lead to massive confusion and broken Haskell installs.

Looks like it works in 13.10. I didn't see it when I searched Synaptic for "Haskell", but when I searched for "haskell platform" I found it and installed it. I know absolutely nothing about Haskell, and wanted to start with the platform. I have looked for it in the past. I'm glad it seems to install now.
