hardinfo not running, or else too slow in starting up

When running hardinfo from the menu on the live CD, (LXDE->System Tools->System Profiler and Benchmark) it never gets up and running. See the attached screen shot. This is on the 2013-03-08 Desktop live CD.

hardinfo doesn't seem to work after a normal install, either.

Repeatedly closing the blank dialog box shown in the screen shot eventually brings up a working System Information window.
