Closed the hamster standalone window, then opened it again quickly and got this message.

In order to recover from this condition, I needed to do:
$ kill `ps auxww|grep [h]amster | awk '{print $2}'`
$ kill -9 `ps auxww|grep [h]amster | awk '{print $2}'`
