Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
As the summary says. It should definitely update more, at _least_ once every 5%. I understand polling is to be kept to a minimum to avoid unnecessary CPU usage but really, it'd be nice if my battery stats didn't go from 25% in one second, and then to 0% in the next...
