Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal

In Ubuntu Jaunty (but also Karmic), the default detected keyboard layout is "French (alternative)". With this particular layout, the space bar is not working in some applications for some reason. An example of such application would be codeblocks IDE.

I googled the problem and figured out that switching the keyboard layout to "French (France)" layout and relogging into Gnome fixes the issue.

Here is the forum where people are reporting the problem and proposed fixes:

a very simple way to correct this bug : "setxkbmap -option nbsp:none", but I suppose you need to run at every reboot.
