Please try with the Dapper Flight 4 Live CD and see if it works there.

Reassigning to Martin as likely a pmount/hal issue, hotplug in breezy didn't touch usb drives.

Yes it works with Dapper Flight 4 Live CD.
But the disk gets a funny name, see screenshot:

attach hal.txt here, and paste the output of

Thanks. However, your lshal output does not contain sda1; are you sure that you did that after plugging in the drive, but before unmounting/ejecting it?

Hi,
i did it with my Ubuntu 5.10, the drive was plugged in and i checked that it was available in System -> Administration -> Disks.
But i didn't mount it manually, so it wasn't mounted.
Do you want me to do it again?

Ah, right, I remember that breezy's hal did not automatically mount drives with an invalid label (this has been fixed in Dapper). However, the device should at least be present in hal. So I'm a bit puzzled indeed and wonder why it does see the drive, but not the partition. Can you please do the procedure again, and additionally send me the output of

  ls -l /dev/sd*
  id hal

? Thanks!
