Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal

In latest Ubuntu Hardy (with hal 0.5.11~rc2-1ubuntu6),

If I let my external disk drive or my USB key plugged on shutdown, their directories (for exemple /media/Linux_Portable) are not removed, and at restart or when I plug them again, they are mounted in other directories (for exemple /media/Linux_Portable_). This is a problem for indexing files on these devices, but not only. It doesn't occurs if I unmount them.

This is apparently a regression from Gutsy at least (maybe from Feisty and Dapper too).

I confirm, that in my case is the same issue...

I have SD card named "1GB" all the time in my SD-slot, so after couple of reboots my media directory looks like this:

% ls /media | grep 1GB
1GB
1GB_
1GB__
1GB___
1GB____
1GB_____

Ubuntu Hardy, kernel: 2.6.24-15-generic, Thinkpad X61

This bug doesn't only occur when shutting down. On AMD64, yanking the drive without unmounting leaves the drive entry in Nautilus (though it's obviously inaccessiblebesides what's already in cache). Inserting the drive again makes a duplicate entry with "_" appended. The first entry can't be unmounted via normal means.

@Daeng Bo: I think manual unmount is not a problem, so do this everytime before "yanking". It is not this bug, and it's not a bug at all.
