Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal

It's very hard to tell if this is a hal problem, but it's my best guess, so forgive me if I'm wrong.
I have this annoying problem since alpha 3: after I press the lid switch in my laptop by closing the display, Ubuntu starts to constantly turning off my display every 30 seconds, despites the lid is not pressed anymore. It's extremely annoying and the only solution I found is "sudo /etc/init.d/hal stop". It helps, but usually not for long, since hal appears to start again (by something else in my kubuntu installation probably) automatically.
Also the display is turning off after I press my WiFi card (ipw2200) kill switch (!).
Some additional info:
$ sudo dpkg-query -l|grep hal
ii hal 0.5.10-5ubuntu6 Hardware Abstraction Layer
ii hal-info 20071212-1ubuntu1 Hardware Abstraction Layer - fdi files
ii libhal-storage1 0.5.10-5ubuntu6 Hardware Abstraction Layer - shared library
ii libhal1 0.5.10-5ubuntu6 Hardware Abstraction Layer - shared library

$ uname -r
2.6.24-5-386

Laptop model: HP NX6110

Well, I believe this one should be closed, because it appears that this is ACPI fault.

It looks that this is ACPI fault, not HAL.
