Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

I have a laptop which I'm daily changing it from docked (in the morning) and undocked (evening). My usual procedure is to suspend (standby) the laptop before docking/undocking.

When I do [docked]suspend+undock+resume or [undocked]suspend+dock+resume I don't get the video output switched automatically (and thus have no video displayed). I would need to press Fn+F7 or ScrollLock+F7 to trigger a video output switch (I am using intel xorg driver). However, my screen is automatically locked upon suspend so I first need to enter the password, but I cannot see the screen. Furthermore, on my Logitech keyboard hooked to the docking station I am unable to produce ScrollLock+F7 due to special function keys rearrangements.

I would need an enhancement like this:
 * somehow have the HAL daemon be notified of dock/undock status (or even status change)
 * once HAL daemon detected a docking change then it should trigger a video output switch by calling the appropriate xorg driver hook (if possible specify which is the current active video output).

I have a Toshiba T61 with an Intel 965GM GPU. I have to reboot after docking (laptop in suspended mode) because my LCD connected to the docking station doesn't work at all.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
