PCMCIA network adapter not displayed in Device Manager Devices tree

Bug Description
In Debian sarge, HAL's "Devices" tree includes a part that looks like this:
PCI1450
PCI1450
Unknown Device
When I click on "Unknown Device" I see this information in the right panel:
This is information about my PCMCIA network adapter.
On Hoary, the "Unknown Device" does not appear in the list.
As a result, applications that consult HAL to find out about network
devices don't work for me on Hoary.
