Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal

Automount works under Edgy but not under Fiesty. Manualmount is possible but I'm only able to do it writeprotected(Might be my fault have'nt been using Linux for so many mounths yet) ( sudo mount /dev/sda1 -t vfat /home/stefan/Desktop/seagate/)

Just ask if I missed to send some info.

I have this problem too as do many others it seems, I think this bug should be merged with #102097 perhaps?

I have the same problem since i use Feisty. I have tested two different Toshiba drives with several file systems and interfaces.
Automount doesn't work at all and when i manually mount the drives, they are write protected.

Anyway, thank you for working on (k)ubuntu...

Could one/ some of you try this with a live CD of Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/tribe-4/

Let us know if the problem persists.

Duncan I didn't clock that your request came from this thread I posted my response in this one #102097 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/102097/comments/19

The short version is that auto-mounting still did not work under Tribe4 I am downloading Tribe 5 right now to test and will feedback to both threads of this bug report.

Please let me know if there is any other info I should submit to help get this bug squashed asap?

My USB hard drive is still not being auto-mounted with Kubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 i386 (running live)

If I do fdisk-l I can see it but no automagic happening

There's been a change although not for the better!

Yesterday I upgraded one of my feisty boxen to gutsy (as usb automount doesn't work on either I may as well have the newer version to see what is going on and gutsy is due soon) upon installation / upgrade yesterday I was able to mount my drive with 'pmount-hal sdb1' and read from it.

I noticed that in todays update there were some hal related packages so I decided to try my drive again, firstly no automagic but secondly (and perhaps more seriously) I now get an error when issuing the pmount command.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Hi Teej

I've not had this problem since Nov 07 and no one else has posted here so I'm thinking this is safe to close.
