Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release: 9.04

Since doing a fresh install of Jaunty Alpha 2 x64, the Media keys on my Logitech MX3000 keyboard no longer work. They were working on Hardy...Volume knob doesn't work up/down, forward/back pause etc...

What information would you like me to gather to resolve this bug.

I have the same problem on a Logitech Cordless Internet Pro. Model name is Y-RK56A.

These keys (like "media", "play/pause", "mute", etc.) dont even show up when i try with xev.

This worked fine in Gutsy, Hardy and Feisty.

Indeed, it seems that there are no longer any X events sent for these extra keys - at least not as reported by xev (which always worked for me before).

I am attaching my specific xorg.conf file, if anyone thinks that the problem may be how Jaunty sets that up, you can look there, but it all looks pretty much correct to me (though I am no expert).

I have attached my xorg.conf as well if that helps.

sorry I retract that! It didn't even have any keyboard entries in there. It was very minimalistic....maybe I got the wrong file here!

I have noticed that the scroll wheel at the left of the keyboard seems to work fine, but non of the other Media keys..

I have the exact same issue with my Logitech LX-700 cordless keyboard.

None of the extra buttons work, and attempts at getting them to work with the standard configuation utilities and with keytouch have failed.

Further, xev fails to report the extra keys being pressed, which tells me that the issue is much lower than X.

I don't receive an events from xev when pressing my Media keys either...

Maybe this is a kernel regression or something then?

On my laptop, button combinations for doing things like screen brightness
up/down etc are also faulty. They 'work', but not as expected. (turning
brightness up works until a point when it suddenly starts doing the
reverse).

It's rather irritating.

Have you perhaps tried to select the type of keyboard under - System, Preferences, Keyboard?

Yes, didn't work.

In a recent update installed today, the play/pause/next/previous/mute
buttons now work, but still all the others are not.

Further, my logitech wireless rumblepad2 doesn't work, xev reports nothing.

After a recent update all my media keys work again :)

Terrific, my Media keys all work again now! There is still a problem, in the fact that for me when the volume status is updated, the volume bar on the top right doesn't show, but rather displays a black "shadow" instead of the Volume Control itself. Should I log this as a seperate bug?

Agreed with above posters. After being out of town all this past week, I come back to a bunch of updates and these extra keys are now working again.

Yes; report the volume issue as a separate bug.

I've just updated to Jaunty from Hardy and my some of my media keys have stopped working. Keys that still work:
* Volume dial
* Mute
* Scroll

Keys that don't work:
* Next track
* Previous track
* Play/Pause
* Stop

Not sure about the others as I've never used them anyway.

Could this be a problem with the upgrade mechanism, or has there been a regression?

Ignore me -- it turns out that the Amarok key bindings got shafted during the upgrade. The media keys were being recognised, just not by the media player!

If anyone else hits the same problem, you need to Configure Shortcuts in the Amarok settings.
