Bug Description

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber fails to stay connected, and oftentimes messages typed in both in Gwibber GUI or through notification area applet are going nowhere. There is no error or disconnect messages, nor confirmation that the messages were sent. To get it working again, I have to force-quit Gwibber and/or gwibber-service, then, upon its restart, I can post again.

The issue happens often, but I am not sure if it is easy to replicate. I have only Facebook account connected to it at the time.

I can confirm on this bug on a 64-bit Lucid 10.04 with the latest updates. Posting messages seems to fail randomly and no error message is generated in case the operation fails.

It happens in 32-bit version too.

One of the things that might correlate ─ network disconnects. Whether connection drops, or computer goes into sleep mode.

On the other hand, when gwibber-service stops responding, Gwibber window itself cannot be started through the notification area drop-down. Not sure if Gwibber could be started through “Applications” menu when that happens, or whether it correlates 100% of the time. Need to keep an eye on it.

@theUg, Please could you run under latest version of gwibber: "gwibber-service -d -o" and attach resulted output of this command to your report (following your steps to reproduce this issue), Thanks!

Here is the debug output. However, I don’t know how to replicate it yet (it happens randomly, and I cannot pinpoint any particular coincidence).

Apologies, I should also add that posts are going through fine to twitter and indenti.ca, just not facebook

I might be seeing the same bug with twitter posts, most likely triggered by network timeouts or twitter overloading. The critical issue is not that Gwibber fails to post the message, but that there is no feedback to the user.

A temporary solution I found that works is to install the Identi.ca Facebook App. Put your Identi.ca account into Gwibber and any post that you send to Identi.ca will be sent to Facebook. Probably not the solution you might have been looking for but it works.
