Bug Description

[Impact]

* Can cause loss of user data.

[Testcase]

* Create, or find and make a copy of a jpg image with exif metadata.
* Open in gwenview, rotate, and save.
* Close gwenview, and re-open the saved jpg
* Confirm that metadata has not been lost.

[Where problems could occur]

While a small patch, and limited to just jpg manipulation, it is plausible that unintended impact on saved jpgs could occur (quality, compression etc) so the results of the manipulation should be checked to make sure that other aspects are as expected.

Package: gwenview
Version: 4:20.12.3-1

As per the debian bug, rotating a jpg and saving the resultant image causes it to lose the exif metadata

This is critical, as it causes data loss for users.

Brian Murray (brian-murray) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Rik, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gwenview into hirsute-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gwenview/4:20.12.3-1ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-hirsute to verification-done-hirsute. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

I've accepted this as the test case seems pretty obvious but please add it, and SRU information, to the bug description anyway.

The proposed package fixes the issue.

0) Software: gwenview
1) version of the package tested: 4:20.12.3-1ubuntu0.1
2) what testing has been performed on the package:
  a) Took photo from (mobile) camera, transferred the photo to PC.
  b) Opened the photo with gwenview, enabled EXIF data (Aperture, Flash, ISO speed rating, manufacturer, model etc). These information was shown on side pane under 'Meta Information'.
  c) Rotated image and saved.
  d) Re-opened the image and found all meta information gone, confirming the bug.
  e) Enabled '-proposed' and installed proposed new version of the package.
  f) Re-did steps a, b, c.
  g) Re-opened the image in gwenview and found all meta information still shown.

Marking bug as 'verification-done-hirsute'.
