Popup unknow protocol remote

I just installed xubuntu 16.04 and when I try to view the current directory
with gwenview: gwenview . or do gwenview *.jpg I see a popup saying

Could not start process unable to create io-slave klauncher said unknow protocol 'remote'

what to do... it does display images etc works fine. What do do...

(At first it wouldnt display any images and upon looking at some forums
it was advise to install

sudo apt-get install kio kio-extras kinit kdelibs-bin kded5 kinfocenter

but yes, I still see the popup)
