Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

This happens several times while grsync'ing picture folders (many "small" files)
after multiple crashes, (and restarting of the sync) the process finally completes successfully.

This seems to be related to file copying (reading from SMB) - it happens only during copying.

Today's dmesg;

[189832.672429] gvfsd-smb[13486]: segfault at c ip 08056b82 sp bfcc0790 error 4 in gvfsd-smb[8048000+1f000]

Also seen it earlier with other kernels etc.

The share then disconnects (no longer mounted under ~/.gvfs) and I have to browse the network again to reconnect it. Rsync does very nicely pick up where it left off but this bug makes for some hard work.

I've added bugreport with patch to gnome bugzilla: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=644505.
I wonder if Ubuntu maintainers could update gvfs with this patch - it fixes the problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Changed in gvfs (Ubuntu):

Hi.
So far, I've run only one such backup with grsync on 11.10 - without problem. - this could be random luck, or just no more bug.
-the 11.10 is clean installed, with only some application settings imported (like .grsync settings)
I will do more testing soon, it would be nice if the problem proved to be gone.
Thank you.
