Bug Description

Binary package hint: gvfs

Booted ubuntu 9.10 live disk (i386 desktop), OK.

Inserted audio CD

Message: Unable to mount audio disc. DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

Then gvfs exited.

I expected an audio CD icon to appear and/or rhythmebox to start playing the CD.

Instead this happened and the audio CD is not recognized.

normd: This bug was reported against a 32 bit live disc installation (ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso).

normd: I also tried reading an audio CD with the ubuntu 9.04 64 bit live disc (ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64.iso), same result as described above.

normd: I also tried reading an audio CD with ubuntu 9.04 64 bit (ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64.iso) installed on my desktop machine (Dell Inspiron 545; Intel Core2 Quad 9400; 8 GB ram, used for all tests) same result as described above. Otherwise this installation works fine.

normd: I also tested an audio CD using a ubuntu 8.04 64 bit live disc (ubuntu-8.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso). It worked as expected, OK. Displayed an icon on the desktop, started rhythmbox, played audio.

In Ubuntu 9.10 in file explorer I can see my CD Rom drive and open and read data disks however if I put in an Audio Disk it is like the actual drive is unmounted. The Device manager continures to see the drive and see it has a disk loaded however file explorer cannt see the drive until you unload the audio disk. No audio application recognised an audio disk loaded in the drive so you cannot rip or play audio disks. The same machine worked OK in Ubuntu 8.10 and a previously installation of 9.10 which did not recognise my Wireless card.

I'm running 9.10 on a Fujitsu laptop. The CD / DVD drive on this laptop is internal, but is internally connected as if it was USB drive. Data CDs and DVDs work fine, but it can't see audio CDs. I get "Unable to mount Audio Disc" errors about every minute while an audio CD is in the drive. The rest of the message is: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

I've chased a few threads and tried some of the suggestions, but nothing helps.

I had the same problem: Ubuntu 10.4 couldn't see an audio cd and I resolved is by replacing my old cd-rom device by a more recent dvd-rom device and using a 40-pin ata-cable (in stead of a 39-pin). My motherboard is P4X266-8233.

I also tried a more recent cd-rw-device and it works too.
