Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I run ubuntu intrepid from the livecd, and click cd-rom/dvd-rom drive from the menu, nothing happens. The tooltip when you hoover your mouse over it says "rescan cd-rom/dvd-rom drive" which doesn't make much sense either.

That's because it's running off of the CD! You couldn't possibly put another CD in. invalidating.

status: New → Invalid

Yes, so then it should either not be shown at all or should do something sensible like showing the cd in nautilus like it would do with any other cd. The only thing that should not be possible is ejecting the cd while ubuntu is running from it.

I believe this is one of those bugs that simply can't be fixed currently.

Because the cdrom is mounted (almost virtually as I uderstand it). I can't then be mounted again by the system because the device is in use. However the setting is required by the system once installed and it can't be removed otherwise there wouldn't be a mount point once installed.

Hope that helps

Then it should just be hidden from the menu.

reassigning to gvfs, the icon doesn't work in the nautilus sidebar either for example

the jaunty rc candidate image has no cdrom item there, do you still get the issue?

closing the bug since that seems fixed in jaunty but you can reopen if you still get the bug
