Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

System info
--
Nautilus 2.22.1
Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch)
Release: 8.04

--
browsing network computers, trying to access shares on any given computer.
the file browser fails to display file shares/folders after a networked computer is selected using Nautilus. However if you know the shared folders name you can type it in the browser and this will work.

Note: The network uses a user access control system based on a windows server.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I can not view shares on my Windows SBS2003 server using Network - File Browser with v8.04, although I could with v7.x. All it shows is the server and an XP client, but opening either reveals a blank window.

Same problem from chifamba.

I have a WinXP machine named "testserver" with 3 shared folders: "Shared", "Applications", "DEMOS".

Using Nautilus:
---
I type: "smb://testserver" and I receive a blank screen. If I type "smb://testserver/DEMOS", the authentication window appears and I can access the shared folder.
---

Using Terminal: (that works)
---
testuser@machine-linux:~$ gnomevfs-ls smb://testserver
connection_message_func(): Callback
CALLBACK: fill-authentication!!!

Password: <*****>
Shared (Directory, x-directory/smb-share) size 0
Applications (Directory, x-directory/smb-share) size 0
DEMOS (Directory, x-directory/smb-share) size 0

ps: I don't have this problem with Ubuntu Feisty (7.10).

Pedro, I don't think that bug is a dup from #209520.
#209520 says:
"Whenever I make a connection to the Window share, I got this error dialog:

Unable to mount location
Failed to mount Windows share

With and OK button."

I just see that message if I try to access a inexistent share.

Just installed all the latest updates and can now see shares on a Win2K machine on our network (that is NOT joined to the SBS2003 domain) but although I can see the SBS2003 server and and XP Pro client (that IS joined to the domain) I can not open either to see shares - just get a blank Window. No idea what's going on but hope this info is useful.

I solved my problem with the patch posted on bug #207072.

Patch1: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/207072/comments/7
Patch2 (Patch1 + modification) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/207072/comments/68

Patch applied on "gvfs-0.2.4-0" and all works fine... finally!!!

Thanks all
