gphoto2: very slow and unstable PTP transfer from Galaxy Nexus

See attached screenshot. I'm getting extremely slow PTP transfers from my Galaxy Nexus phone, on the order of 80kbytes/s via usb.

Sometimes it stalls and errors, sometimes ubuntu won't even mount the device, and when it finally does, it's slow.

It does, except here it's PTP, not MTP. While I'm at it, MTP also doesn't work, but these are two different protocols, and probably warrant two different bugs.

I don't know, if this is the same bug, but when I connect Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini to computer using USB and PTP, it takes about 15 seconds to even show file list every time I give focus to the Thunar window that is supposed to show the list of image files in the device. This is in Ubuntu Studio 13.10.
