Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

ubuntu 10.04 latest cups+gutenprint as of 9/2010 .. AMD64 canon MP530 using MP500 driver

1. the print driver is using the wrong black ink for color photo printing .. there are lines in dark areas that change depending on image size and resolution (larger photos get worse) .. suspect the wrong ink choice may be causing this

2. the driver does not use variable ink drop feature so results are grainy and not as good as windows canon driver (except color is actually better) ... again maybe the problems in getting variable drop size working has something to do with using the wrong ink ..

3. initial contrast was way off but somehow corrected itself after a few days.

i tried turboprint with great success .. that works perfectly and has an excellent interface.

This is an upstream problem of Gutenprint, the driver used for this printer, not a problem of the Ubuntu packaging and integration. Please report your problems to the upstream bug tracker.
