Bug Description

System Info:
MSI Wind 12 U230
AMD L335 Dual Core CPU
AMD Radeon HD3200
Xubuntu 10.04 LTS 32 bit
4GB Memory

Problem:
The Epson Stylus T10 printer gets detected and is installed in lucid but when you print from applications like ooo,.org, inkscape, gnome photo printer, photoprint etc. it will not print. The print manager queue is showing activity but nothing gets printed. The printer just makes noises for a few seconds, blinks the indicator light and just sits there not printing at all.

Am not really sure if its the cups-driver-gutenprint package having issues since I have a Samsung ML-1640 Laser Printer installed to my machine and it prints fine when it gets plugged in.

Same here. I've been using the same printer (Epson Stylus T10) in 9.10 and it works just fine. When I freshly installed 10.04, the same printer was installed. However, when you print, it shows some activity then prints nothings. Hope that this can solved soon, as this is the only printer available at home.

Can you try the proposed fix of bug 539708? This probably also solves your problem.

sad to say, epson t10 printer does not work anymore even on the final ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx release. You can install the driver (epson Txx) successfully and even send a print test page command, but no response from the printer (Epson T10 previously worked in Karmic using the T20 driver). BTW, the very limited driver from "AVASYS" is not a good option.

I found out that the problem is due to regressions from the following packages:
cups-driver-gutenprint v5.2.5
libgutenprint2 v5.2.5

solution:
downgrade both packages to v5.2.4

garybrlow,

Does taking the packages "libgutenprint2_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" and "cups-driver-gutenprint_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" from http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gutenprint/ and installing them after removing the 5.2.5 counterparts work?

Yes it definitely works using the 5.24 versions.

When i tried removing the 5.2.5 versions of the two packages. It says that "ubuntu-netbook" has to be removed too. I am using the netbook edition of Ubuntu Lucid. So, I didn't continue removing it. How can I downgrade the two packages safely, without removing ubuntu-netbook? Or is it ok just to remove it?

You do not need to uninstall anything, follow the instructions in my comments #13, #17, and #19 in bug #576705. Then you get the 5.2.4 version in parallel to the 5.2.5. When switching to the 5.2.4 driver, look for the "OpenPrinting" one in the list.
