Bug Description

I have an Epson Stylus T24 printer. It worked on Karmic using the Stylus T20 driver.
Now, in Lucid, it does not work anymore. On installation the procedure is the same
as in Karmic: the exact driver is not found, but one is lead to choose an alternate
driver from a list. Now the suggested driver is T21 (not T20, as before), but neither
of those work. No error is reported when printing from any program, but the printer
simply does not print.

I am also experiencing this problem. I have a Stylus T27 - It was working fine in Karmic with the T20 driver but now I can't get it to print on any of the drivers.

My Epson Printer T20E also can not be used in Lucid, whereas in ubuntu 9.xx can run normally.
The printer is detected as the T20E and drivers used are T20. But strangely, when lsusb detected as Epson D88 +
lsusb:

I'm not sure it it was correctly identified in Karmic. Djoko, do you know
if it was recognized otherwise in Karmic?

Also, as there are three people with the exact same problem, I will
mark this as confirmed.

The same problem occurs with my T24. It was working on Karmic but in Lucid the printer led starts blinking but the page is not printed out.

Tried to reinstall cups, installed the newer version of proposed packages and still don't work.

I've updated to the proposed repo, but still can not print.

Then I tried to install Turboprint (trial version) ... amazing, the printer can print. But there is a strange thing, when I try to use the cups-gutenprint driver (probably able to print) still can not print, and when I try again using Turboprint driver, the printer can not print, and on the Turboprint status, show a message: printer not connected or switch-off and then the next message appears: usb_error: -1. To be able to print again, the printer must be turned off and then turned on again.

Indeed, with Turboprint can solve the problem, but I don't want to use it because I have to pay, better go back to Karmic Koala: p

Here I include cups error_log

the problem is the gutenprint 5.2.5
I fixed the problem unistalling the gutenprint 5.2.5 files, and downloading gutenprint 5.2.4 files from http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/text/,

i downloaded this files:

foomatic-db-gutenprint_5.2.4-0ubuntu2_all.deb
gutenprint-locales_5.2.4-0ubuntu2_all.deb
ijsgutenprint_5.2.4-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
libgutenprint2_5.2.4-0ubuntu2_i386.deb

i installed it, and now my epson t21 printer is working again, of cource with the epson t20 driver. but is working again.

Dear Jonny, I couldn't find the files you installed on that site (also are there
64 bit versions?). Could you please
provide the direct links? Also it would be nice for me to know exactly which packages
you have removed before installing the 2.5.4 ones.

Hi all,

This hasn't worked for me. Here I send you screenshots of the exact sequence
of package removal and installations. I continue to have the exact same
problem, the printer receive information, the light blinks, but nothing is
printer and no error is reported. The driver from Karmic repos that is
used is T20 (instead of T21 which is suggested in Lucid), and it is the one
that worked when in Karmic.

Leandro, try to install cups-driver-gutenprint, then you must delete all previous printer, then add the printer again, I do that and succeed

I found out why the problem was not being solved for me. The issue was that
after installing the older gutenprint packages, I was changing my software sources
back to lucid. Probably the driver being installed was the lucid one (I think).

Now, by installing the printer --before-- changing the repositories back to lucid,
the printer is functioning again.

I have one issue though:

sudo apt-get updage ; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

seems to be willing to upgrade the gutenprint packages, although Synaptic
and the Update manager don't (I think because I've chosen to lock their version
in Synaptic). How can I lock the version of these packages for the command-line
apt?

i found an easier solution, with this one you can keep the gutenprint 5.2.5, to solve the problem the only that is needed is to change the printer driver to epson stylus c66.
