Hi, many people like me suffer because of that problem, it does not only crash when you try to open preferences, it does it also when I try to add a music directory. This package seams rather buggy.
Please look at it because in forums is written that an install from github works fine.
A Google search shows: http://www.google.com/search?q=gtkpod+crash you the dilema

In Quantal this bug doesn't exist... Can we have a backport in Precise?

Lubuntu 12.4 gtkpod refuses to stay open, opens and crashes straight away. Has done for a good few weeks.
I changed back to 12.4 from 12.10 thinking this would solve the problem

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, fresh installation. GTKpod crashes when attempting to view preferences, import from directories, import multiple files, import mp4/m4v files, and delete multiple albums.
