Bug Description

Binary package hint: gtk2-engines-murrine

I'm not sure if this needs to be reported against this or pango1.0, humanity-icon-theme, or something else. This package seemed like the largest version delta, so I chose it.

The font rendering for text-on-grey (background) items in the gnome-panel lacks earlier clarity. So things like the text on the weather report applet, background task names in the window list, and my name in the indicator-applet-session applet are much harder to read.

Actually, I can confirm, downgrading to version 0.90.3+git20091211-0ubuntu1 from my cache fixed the rendering.

Does the problem only occur with a semi-transparent panel?

Kees Cook (kees) wrote :

Yes, it's much more obvious as I turn up the panel transparency level.

It does not only occur with (semi-)transparency: see attached screeshot.

it's still present in the latest lucid for now. i think it's quite annoying, the fonts really do look blurry to me, exactly for the selected menu item or selected text, which is what you want to read more often.

interestingly for the title bar i noticed that the problem does not appear if i change the font to be non-bold.
however even if doing that, it still affects at least the currently selected menu item, selected text, unselected tabs in firefox.

Setting back to confirmed because this is a task in Ubuntu and not for the upstream project - so unless the fix is committed to the branch for this package, it isn't fix committed. Furthermore, cimi said *maybe* fixed - thats not conclusive at all.

in fact i don't see the problem anymore. i think it may have been cause for me by bad gamma for the screen (which came from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/548709 ).

anyway now it works OK again, i don't have blurry fonts anymore in this theme.

Since the problem is gone and Emmanuel believes this was not actually a bug I believe the correct action is to set status to invalid?
