Bug Description

1) Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS Beta 1 - actual

2) unity: Installiert: 5.4.0-0ubuntu2

3) It should be possible, that any kind of dialogue box is resize to be fully visible on any kind of screen, where it is opened. Just rethink what full screen windows (firefox, etc) are handled. There is no logical reason, that a open-file-dialog or whatever exceeds (especially in length) the size of the (desktop-panel) size or the (screensize-launcher) size. Unity is the desktop environment and should handle that. It is mostly anoying and takes away a lot of fun, using the unity desktop environment.

4) On most dialogues I open, like file-open-dialogue (in any program), screenshot-dialogue, lots more, I have to press Alt, click on the dialogue box, move it up, resize it - and can then handle what the dialogue box wants.

How to reproduce
Use a netbook with 1024x600 or smaller screen, login to unity, open the open-file-dialogue - and you have a problem. You have to move and resize the dialogue.

How to solve it
There are two strategies for fixing this.
1. You could maximize all the dialogues (like it was at the old netbook-launcher).
2. You could via the desktop environment handle the maxim size of dialogues - not to cross the borders of the usable screen size.

A less elegant solution, but that might work too, is to allow user to press a key, maybe F5, and save the form, size and position of a dialogue/window, so that is opened in that form, size and position, the next time, it is used.

This isn't a bug with Unity, it's a bug in gtk. If a dialogue can be sized down, it should be displayed small enough on small screens so that it can fit in the screen.

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)
Changed in unity:
