Bug Description

When using File open in an application the Nautilus File Dialog shows up. It has severe shortcomings (see attached screenshot):
(1) Hidden files show or don't show based on the selection made in Nautilus earlier. No UI (e.g. at (2)) is provided to toggle (Ctrl+H seems to work)
(3) display is always in detail mode Ctrl1-3 or Ctlr+- to alter the display don't work.

Show/Hide hidden files is available through keyboard shortcuts or rightclick, so a UI element is a nice-to-have.
The lack of display settings (e.g. specify columns like in the main window) like icons/list/details is a usability issue.

Do you have the "Main Toolbar" ticked in the "View" menu?

Hi Walter,
I can select or unselect "Main Toolbar" in the view menu of Nautilus' main window. I also can change sort or display order in Nautilus' main window. Both has no influence on Nautilus' (or does that dialog belong to Gnome?) File Open dialog. I'm referring to the dialog that appears when you hit Ctrl+O in gEdit, gnumeric, gimp or any other application. Hope that clarifies it.

Hi,

This feature would have to be implemented in the Gtk UI toolkit since the File Open dialog is not part of Nautilus specifically.

Changed in nautilus (Ubuntu):
status: Incomplete → Confirmed
affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) → gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)

Hi,

You can right click on the file pane and select 'Show hidden files' (or unselect it), so that's not really a bug. Not being able to change the display could be a Wishlist bug though. Please edit this bug report to reflect that.

Changed in gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Invalid
status: Invalid → Incomplete
