After clicking a menu item, you can't re-click it without moving the mouse cursor at least 1 pixel

Bug Description

In several applications (gedit, evolution, full screen f-spot picture browsing) if you click a menu item you then have to move the mouse cursor at least one pixel before being able to click it again. The most trivially reproducible example of this is the "Create New Document" button in gedit.
