Bug Description

Gimp, invoked from the commandline with no arguments, fires this assertion hundreds of times.

(gimp:10084): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)

`menu_proxy_module_load': gimp: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load

When I do a gaussian blur, I see several like this:

`menu_proxy_module_load': /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/blur-gauss: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load

(blur-gauss:10089): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)

There is no evident malfunction of gimp except that a programmer from the past is telling me that something is not as he thought it ought to be.

Thank you for this bug report. I can't reproduce this bug on Ubuntu 13.04.

Am I correct that you upgrade from release to release?

I assume something went wrong here. Have you tried to do an "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" (if you have not done it by yourself).

I'm setting this bug to Incomple until I get a response from you.

Changed in gimp (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I think the issue is that I've disabled the global (top of screen) menus in
favor of in-window menus. I believe the removed packages are only
appmenu-gtk and appmenu-gtk3.

This is still a bug, though: either gimp requires those libraries (in
which case apt / dpkg should notice) or, more reasonably, it should not (in
which case the errors on stderr should not be emitted).

I begin to suspect this may not be gimp-specific given the above.
