Bug Description

Binary package hint: gthumb

Like most apps, gthumb has keyboard shortcuts. However, there appears to be no way to edit them or to add new ones, at least not from within gthumb. In particular, I'd like to see a function added to bring up the "Open Location" dialog associated with the "Browse" button in the "Move File" dialog. Compare to the "F8" shortcut in Gwenview.

I would also be happy with a keyboard shortcut for Move command. (Ubuntu 12.04)

It will be "nice" to get back this option. I need a way to define a keyboard shortcut for, for example, copy or move a picture, from the viewer, to another directory.

Adding my own request for this change. Using Ubuntu 15.10 on an Acer C720, which does not have many of the keys needed to use all the hard-coded shortcuts. The main difficulty is that there is no way to use the keyboard to the previous image. Space bar works to go to the next image, but since there are no "page up" and "page down" buttons on the C720's keyboard, there is no way to go back. IMO, since many newer laptops will not have these keys, nor will they have "home," 'end," etc., it's better to open up keyboard shortcuts to be customized by the user. This will become especially difficult as Ubuntu and other distros move towards tablet functionality, and users start using smaller bluetooth keyboards, etc.

Isaac, you can use <backspace> to go to previous image.

I'd like an option to edit keyboard shortcuts as well, I've dug around in config files and have yet to find anything that allows for user definable shortcuts. I'll report back here if I ever do find anything.

Next and Previous with arrow keys would be great.

GThumb is the best image viewer for me as it has everything I need and nothing more. But it is VERY uncomfortable to use it for fast image search through folders. That is just because of PgUp/PgDown and Space/Backspace as a navigation keys.

I would like to change Next/Prev image shortcuts to left/right or up/down keys. I don't have a PgUp/PgDown on my notebook keyboard as a standalone keys. They are only available with Fn button, which sits on the left side of the keyboard, which makes it impossible to use one hand to navigate.

Space/Backspace is on some distance as well and I have to change my hand position from one I use to navigate through files in file manager. It is uncomfortable and annoying. I have to use standard GNOME image viewer for fast image search through folders and GThumb for the rest of image operations. Which is noncence as GThumb is powerful and fancy, but its devs decided that PgUp/PgDown and Space/Backspace will be OK for all users. And it is not OK.

So, I would love to have an option to change a keyboard shortcuts. At least finely documented and easy to understand config file. But GUI would be better, of course.

Made an account to say that I'd like the forward/backward keys to be left/right arrow as well or at least a way to change them.

As a workaround, you can compile my fork of the official Gthumb Github repo:

https://github.com/antongulenko/gthumb

I changed the following keyboard bindings:
 - Left/Right keys for switching images
 - Scrolling up/down for zooming the current image
The changes are hacked in and not intended to be upstreamed, but they work for me.
For compilation and installation instructions, see the upstream README.

Same problem. I cannot use ALT+1 or 2 or 3 to flag my pictures because these are keys used by my desktop environment to select a desktop. As a consequence, I cannot flag pictures to create a quick selection.

I too need to change the shortcut keys for image navigation instead of space and backspace for image navigation i want to use , and . or < > keys or arrow keys and for zooming <, >.

I often navigate between images(photos) so i need handy keys for navigation of the images.

If there is any such option to change keyboard shortcuts, it will be more useful.

Thanking you.
