Bug Description

Short decription says "Google's framework for writing C++ tests - header files". It should be something like "Google's framework for writing C++ tests - source code"

Long description says "This package contains the header files needed to link programs against gtest.", where it should be saying something like "This package contains the source code needed for programs to build and use gtest." instead.

The attachment "fix-for-949942.debdiff" of this bug report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag 'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

I'm not quite sure this is actually a bug - if you have a look at other packages it seems to be the convention to describe the included .h files as header files:

daniel@daydream:~$ apt-cache search header files | wc -l
1197
daniel@daydream:~$

Hi dholbach,

The thing gtest has quite an exotic way of distributing hist library. It provides only libgtest-dev. There's no libgtest counterpart. So *no library* (shared or static) is delivered at all. libgtest-dev delivers all the source code and users of gtest *must* compile that code into their programs to use it.

Hi,

@Paolo
Please do not use Fix committed if the patch has not been uploaded to the archive.

how about you a) mention the headers too (since they are included in the package) and b) describe the exotic status of the package (and how it differs from usual -dev packages) in a short sentence in the long description, i think that would be a good compromise ...
note that if someone searches for the keyword headers (like daniel did above) he would not find this package with the proposed patch.

Please also report this to Debian, as we don't want to permanently diverge the package description just in Ubuntu (as this would also break translations). http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting describes how to do this; it boils down to installing "reportbug" and running "reportbug -B debian libgtest-dev".

Thank you!

I'm unsubscribing sponsors as this should go via Debian.
